Disc rotors

Are these interchangeable? I know they have different diameters but do they have different thicknesses? Should you always use the correct rotors for the brakes in question?
Reason I ask is I can't seem to find anything in google :P

To the best of my knowledge, no. There's different sizes and different fixings, but they're all a standard thickness.0

so a 160mm Shimano rotor that came with some Shimano Mechanical disc brake would be ok to use with a new Deore hydraulic brake that uses 160mm rotors?
I have the proper ones coming but not sure whether I want to wait till then lol0 -
Shouldn't see why not. I can't see anything on any of CRCs rotors to suggest otherwise.0

Check carefully when the discs are fitted that everything lines up OK - the outside diameter may be the same, but the inside diameter of the working area (if that makes any sense) may not.
I recently swapped from 6 bolt AVID CS2s to a Shimano Centrelock and had some problems which i reckon were due to the Juicy Pads rubbing effectively just on the "spokes" of the Shimano disc..Every time I go out, I think I'm being checked out, faceless people watching on a TV screen.....0 -
The mechanical Tektro rotors on jr's Chucker are noticeably thicker than Avid G2s0

9 times out of 10 you can interchange rotors - even if they are a different thickness (which will literally be the difference of a nats pube!) the pads will self centralise and adjust to the thickness.
so long as you get the right diameter, you can get any brand. Some brands may say otherwise simply to get you to always buy their kit - this isnt usually the case.
as said above, some "inside" diameters may vary, but again, by a very small amount....0 -
The only ones to really be wary of would be hope's vented design. I'm not even sure if they still make them, but they are considerably wider than normal discs.0

Well at least it should tide me over for a day or two till Merlin's get the right rotors back out to me thanks0

Almost certain they still make them, they say they are only for use with the V2 and previous versions0 -
The other one is floating rotors, which aren't always compatible with different calipers because the buttons stick outUncompromising extremist0

And they rub on fox post mounts turning them silver (the mount and part of the rotor) not that I'd know form personal experiance
Its only with certain hubs though I think, some don't stick the rotor out so far0 -

And shimano0 -
Wait, are they ok, with shim hubs, or NOT ok? Sorry!
i might be buying some shimano hubbed wheels soon, would be handy to know if i can use the hope floating rotor I have spare.0 -
-
what?
So hope floating rotors DO rub when using shimano hubs?0 -
Does with my Deores yes.
Might not be the same with all shimano hubs though
But, its only rubbing, no damage is being caused, its just cosmetic0 -
it milled a good quarter of a mill of my 55s0

It goes through the paint on my Foxes and no more I'm sure. It is a nice brushed effect though, it isn't horrible.
Should definatly be an option for the whole fork0
