Replacing BB

My 2005 Giant OCR bike has a bottom bracket with Shimano removal fitting, does this mean the axle taper is Shimano? It's a Campag chainset. I heard you can't use the two together as the taper is different angle and could damage the chainset. I've bought a Shimano BB tool, and have a Campag BB tool also. A new Centaur BB is not too bad at £30.

    You heard wrong. The angle is the same (taper length is different). Nothing to be concerned about, so long as you are not removing and replacing your cranks regularly - and, anyway, that's more of a concern if you have Shimano cranks on a Campy axle.
