Cool nice shots, I live just outside London and can see bugger all when I look up. I love it when Im out in the sticks at night and you can see the stars.
Can you draw some lines on the pictures please so we can see the constellations please? I did a google search but can seem to match the shapes to your photos.0 -
Sure! Gimme some time. I'll just do the main ones.
I am hoping for a darker night and get some better stuff.0 -
Hopefully got this one right!

Yup I was WAY OFF when I was trying to match up googled constellations to the photo
thanks, thats a very nice diagram.0 -
Yeah, anything far from the pole star and above about 10 seconds and you'll notice trails apearing.0

The main stars weren't as bright as I hoped which makes it tricky! Need darker skies lol.0 -
psymon wrote:may also try long exposure/tripod combo....will i get some nice light trail shots?
The great thing about long exposures is that the camera picks up far more light that way. Most of those stars weren't visible at all to the naked eye.0 -
Wasn't the best night, but did see a few. One point saw two at the same time, will check the cam and see if I got it.0
-
Well it's clear here in Worth Nails so far.
I hope it will stay like this overnight.0 -
We saw loads last night...
about 12 - 15 in the space of an hour....
went to a beach in east lothian with a flask of tea!Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Not a bloody thing! Unless you count a low-flying chopper at 2.30am. Really low, sub 300ft or so.
Been seeing lots of low flying choppers this week, couple of Jolly Green Giants and smaller Puma types, poss from RAF Valley? Smaller ones in pairs.
Low cloud now, darkish sky.
Not much hope for "Free" display tonite.0 -
I saw a few bright ones but I only managed to capture one meteor on camera.
And a couple of airplanes...
15 second exposures.

supersonic wrote:Thats one feature I love about this fuji - it has on board stitching software! It knits three together - you take the first, then when you take the second you get a shadow of the last in the viewfinder. Overlap it, repeat, then it does all the rest.
tis a cool feature indeed, i took this in the lakes as an experiment in the lakes a few months back (scroll across)

How many photos can you stitch together with it?
I've always used photo gallery or PS to stitch them.0 -
you can take 3 photos and as sonic said, you see a shadow on the screen of the previous picture, line it up as best as you can and take the next picture.
the shot in my last post was taken free hand but the camera makes an allowance for any movement when taking the shots and stitches them in an auto stylee.0 -
I shall have to have a play with some of those cameras.
If you do like your panorama pics, photo gallery is definitely worth a play. It's free, and you can stitch loads of images together. As long as there is a little overlap between the pictures, it will edit them together seamlessly itself!0 -
i had never thought to try and take a pic like that before but the wife was trying it out with the same camera as sonic has so i thought i would give it a go.
they really are god bits of kit as far as i can tell, and cheap too. im sorely tempted to buy one myself. i'll bring it up with me.0 -

Nice work! Sadly I didn't get anything, hopefully will be more tonight.0 -
I did very flukeily catch a faint sporadic meteor when photoing the ISS: can see it to the right, appears to be breaking up.

I saw the ISS but it the camera sadly didn't pick it up. It's way to bright round here.0

Tonight's the second peak night so get some good photos up!
Simple diagram of where to look:

That's to the north eastish ;-)0

I have to say, Aries is like, the crappest constellation ever, isn't it? It only seems to have two stars, and the line between them is all squiggly!0
-
Yeah, ish, at about midnight.
The meteors can be seen pretty much anywhere in the sky, but eminate from that point.0 -
I've got a plan. I'm either going to head partway up the Snowdon miner's path, or by the edge of the Mymbyr lakes.
If it's not cloudy again, of course, which it is at the moment :roll:0 -

I wish I could do that same, there's not many dark places to go in Birmingham...0 -
Head on over the border. Once you cross the border into Mid Wales, there's not much civilisation at all around there, if I remember rightly. Not until you reach oswestry or something.0

Sounds like a plan, see how the weather goes!0
