I am a newcomer to road cycling, covered just over 1500 miles now on my first entry level carbon frame bike, £1000. I don't wanting to spend the cash on a more expensive new bike until I'm ready to move up to a 53/39 cassette so on the interim I'm looking to purchase decent new wheels and tyres..-

looking to spend £150 ish - Shimano rs10s. Or mavic askyms ? Or other?

Tyres - continental gp entry level have been good up to now but looking for a fast rolling
puncture resistant tyre

any help guys

nb pardon the spellling but sending this from my iPhone

Massive can of worms but switching to 53x39 isn't better, is just choice.
What wheels do you currently have? £150 won't get you much improvement if you want new wheels and tyres. Just buy a good set of tyres and you'll notice a difference, tyres such as Michelin Pro Race 3, Conti GP4000, Schwalbe Ultremo are good.

Currently have richley dcs pros with continental gp tyres

      wheels weigh 2800g approx pair

just had my first puncture, so which are the best puncture resistant of the three which were the 3 on my shortlist.. Not sure about schwable? No complaints with continental in wet or cornering but not tried other two

The wheels I am looking at are approx 1000g lighter, should that not make a considerable difference?

Yeah I'd say so. Maybe look at planet x model b if you want to save weight on a budget.

and if after that you still want to change your gear ratios, change the cassette, it's easier and cheaper (an 11/23 on a 50T will give a slightly better high gear than a 12/25 on a 53T). You will benefit from having a higher gear range - but you'll only notice when you do something really tough and put the lower geared cassette back on (perhaps its psychological).

Tyres - I swear by vredestein tricomps.

Wheels will always give the biggest bang for your buck - rotational weight is far more important than other weight.

thats hardly bare wheel weight. 1 kg of it is cassette and tyres. you wont save 1 kg .
i tightened the spokes and got some yellow striped krylion carbon tyres which match well with the boardmans yellowe highlights.
