Is it me or has anyone else noticed that the map of stage 1 and the description on the website don't tally for the first section out of Rochdale?

The text on the site says the route heads out from town towards Norden for the first sprint and then passes Ashworth Moor Res en route to the foot of the first climb at Waterfoot - this means heading out NW from the town centre. The stage map show the route heading directly N through Whitworth then W to Waterfoot.

Which is it to be? I'd like to plan my viewpoints but if it is the Norden way then it's not clear where the route heads once past the Res to get to Waterfoot... :?

I've tried emailing the official email address listed on the website in the past about things and never had a response so I'm not particularly convinced about asking them this time...

Have you tried the website for the local council? The Norfolk county council site has a very detailed route map for the stage round here.
  • Bloody hell your right!

I hadn't even noticed that and it's my normal ride from rochdale up to burnley that I do most of the time.

The council site has the written route with the riders going up through Edenfield. The map has them going through Whitworth is from the BC site.

I have to say The Edenfield route is a much better start then the boring ride up through Whitworth.
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?
  • Text is correct, map is due to be changed apparently is the answer I've been given in an email.
  • just found this article about road closures.
    Events on the highway

Rochdale Town Centre (NEW) – Various Streets
Temporary road closures to facilitate the Tour of Britain Cycle Race
Delays expected on A680 Edenfield Road

looks like Edenfield Road past Owd Betts. :D
  • If you look under the map pdf for each stage you can download the handbook which details each stage turn by turn.
  • There's also some OpenSpace OS maps according the latest newsletter. If you click on the view route button if opens up a little window with a map in that you can zoom in right down to Landranger scale. Pretty good for checking out the precise route without having to read through all t'manual.
