    It's not a crisis.

It's an excuse to buy stuff
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

    Worked for me.

Instead of spending £40k on a Porsche I spent £10k on a more sensible car, £3k on bike gear, £2k on hifi leaving me £25k for holidays.
I can even rent a Porsche out of the left over cash should I feel the need.

One of my better decisions :P

What a load of b****cks. Saw that on the Beeb this morning, surely most people take it up to a) lose weight and b) save money on the commute into work?
  • Mid life crisis....who me? Nah, I'm way too old for that..... unless I can live to 114!!!
2 Wheels or not 2 wheels..That is not in question.

Add to the fact that the so-called mid life crisis definition seems to conflict with the fact that these people a) have often paid off the morgage, b) their kids have left home and therefore no longer a financial concern and c) are probably at the peak of their lifetime payscale.

It all adds up to a financial security so why not enjoy a car, motorbike, flash cycle etc. I've seen it that way since I was a teen, I'm 33 now and still see it that way.

Anyway, a REAL midlife crisis would be doing something evil or tragic.

There is only 1 drawback to thinking that mid life cycling is like golf..
cycling is not a like a comfortable golfing sweater and electric buggy..
if you have an aim to lose weight, get fitter, go race or sportive etc etc it costs a bit in quite a lot of exertion.
fair play to anyone who overcomes this slight flaw in the plan and they continue to ride.
Only when it does touch more people will more and better facilities for cyclists become a natural thought process for our 'planners' in central and local government.

I must have aged prematurely then - I've been having my mid-life crisis since my 20's and still got it 25 years later!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    This.

I haven't got a mortgage and should I wish to buy anything it's simply because I can now and couldn't when I was younger.
I look upon a mid life crisis as someone who suddenly tries to look younger than he is, and ends up looking pathetic eg. earrings, dyed/highlighted hair and unsuitable trendy young clothing. Tragic!!

I much prefer being 34 than 24. Dear god I was scrawny and wasn't even glanced at by women; now I have them throwing rocks at me, it's awesome!
