  • Different types on different formats.

For vinyl, it is mostly 1950s–1970s jazz albums – probably a couple of hundred Blue Note albums which have lovely cover designs and might be worth a small fortune now.
  • if they are the very first issues from the states yes they will be worth a big fortune - hundreds in fact (to the right person). Blue Note did lots of re issues through the years but even the 70's/80's versions are worth $ I sold some Anthony Williams/Herbie Hancock/Donald Byrd re issues and picked up £30/40 a pop. I've seen original Blue Notes go for £400+ but that was a few yrs back.

Here are some of mine. I have around 3500 although I've not bought any for a few years - gone digital now!

Bonus points if you can name any of them! ;)

In 1972, at 15, I got my first fulll-time job.
My VERY first purchase? A stereo, where the speakers folded into the top, making a lid!

Think it was about 50p per month, for about 6 months.
( My wages were, £15 per week. 5 quid to my Mam, ten quid for me.)

Used to take it to the Eastmoors youth club, Splott.
Bit of a DJ thing going on then!

Vinyl IS KING! Bought most of my stuff from Spillars, the Hayes, Cardiff.

The World's OLDEST record shop, apparently.
Just moved to Castle Arcade, and they got some "diamonds" they found in the basement during the move...

I'll take a pop that they are libraries as those on the second shelf to the right look like KPMs next to Themes?

    I have about 1,000 12" - early hip-hop, house, hard-house and techno (88 - 98), jungle drum & bass (v.early - 98ish) + some indy classics.

If I wanted to sell it on where would be the best place? Some of it used to be worth good money (white labels, acetates, promo pressings) and some were rarities when I bought them, I paid up to £60 a pop for some stuff which as a skint student was a lot of money back then :D .

I guess listing it all individually would get me the most cash but I'm not sure I can be arsed. Is there anywhere to bulk sell?

they look like libary records on labels such as KPM and Themes, obviously not as you would have understood my message. The spines look indentical which is always a sign of everything being on the same label with generic cover this is what Library records are like. These were records made in the 70's as background music for TV and film and only available to borrow by production companies. It just so happend that some of them were incredibly funky and are now highly collectable.

  • I might be interested in the early house stuff if you want to split it.

Ahh yes, I know what you mean - Neil Richardson, Syd Dale, Alan Hawkshaw etc. I've got some of their stuff as digital, but nothing on vinyl.

Although not library music, Howard Blake's soundtrack to "An Elephant Called Slowly" is in the same vein and well worth checking out. About as far from "The Snowman" as you can get.

I need to catalogue what I've got - will try to pull my finger out and sort it out. Hardly at home for the next 3 weekends though.
