He's been "in" the cycling scene for as long as I can remember. I'm not keen on those bikes though.
  • Smith left school at the age of 15, a member of Beeston Road Club, his only ambition was to become a racing cyclist, until his father hauled him off to work at a clothing warehouse. Smith had no real interest in his work during his first two years there, except for the cycle journey to and from his home. A cycling accident put an end to his racing ambitions, and it was only then that Smith's career in fashion design began.

Getting back into the cycling scene perhaps.

Horizontal toptube and riser stem is just wrong! Anyone with half-an-iota of cycling style would understand that in an instant!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

They're pretty good! Nice to see bikes designed with aesthetics that aren't either fake-retro or Power Ranger Syndrome (like it was designed for Power Rangers i.e. covered in stickers, shock colours and aggressive swoopy lines - bikes, motorbikes, razors and watches all suffer from this).

It's about a million times better than the Armani bike

Quite apart from looking like a Halfords special, it's a city bike with derailler gears and rim brakes. Good lord, why? Plus the frame only comes in one size.

Ah some of you are so pedantic, preferring to comment on the topic title rather than the material.....

Agree about the rising stem faux pas.

Yes, but your title is deliberately misleading. Paul Smith is 'well into' cycling already, as most people on here know from various Rapha-bashing threads, super expensive stripy saddles, general knowledge, etc. You also neglect to point out that these are just six* special edition bikes for the Danish cancer charity 'Flamme Rouge'. It's not like there's going to be loads of them around - London isn't going to be awash with trendy city types dressed head to toe in Rapha doing a lap of Richmond Park on their Paul Smith bikes - worst case scenario, there'll only be six (OK 8 if Paul Smith and Brain Holm turn up too, but I don't think Holm would be wearing Rapha, but I digress). Also, I think it's the charity element of the whole thing that is important, and it doesn't hurt to emphasize that.

Incidentally, the auctions have got about a week left to run, estimates are that the bikes will go for around 6000 Euros a piece.

There's clearer info about the whole thing, and a link to the auction if you fancy a bid (although the buyer pays a whopping 20% fee on top of the winning total), here:

*8 if you include the ones for Paul Smith and Brian Holm - thought I'd get that in for the pedants.

Well, my comment on the material is this - They are bikes that will hopefully raise lots of money for a cancer charity.

My comment on the title is this - It's old news. He used to (still does?) sell bikes through his stores a few years ago anyway.

They aren't riser stems, they are 0deg - it's the FSA Plasma integrated bar. A neg angle would be needed to make it look flat in line with the top tube.

Shame, it would look miles better with the stem looking flat...

    I wouldn't buy a bike which didn't have a horizontal top tube '90s style.

    What's a riser stem?

If you look at the comparative saddle and bar heights, a slight rise seems perfectly reasonable.
