Blue Crustyness (Gamegear style)

After a discussion with yeehaamcgee about Gameboys etc, I thought I would dig out my old Gamegear.
Great selection of games I found as well
But anyway, I went to put some batteries in the back (lost the mains powers thing so cant use that) and it looks like the last batteries that where in it had leaked or something. It looks like this now, all blue and crusty:
Now the other battery compartment on the other side is fine. When I put all the batteries in, it just wont turn on or anything so I'm guessing its something to do with the blue crustyness. Is it just a case of cleaning it all out so the batteries make proper contact, or is it buggered?

had the same thing happen to my old camera. the best way is to lick it off0

You should be able to clean it off (use a touch of vinegar if it's hard to shift)
Off topic:
Mickey Mouse and Shinobi were amazing on Gamegear0 -
The blue crustyness is just oxidisation. Just use some fine sandpaper (or your missus' nail file) to clean most of it off, and make sure the metal where it makes contact with the batteries is clean, and it should be fine.0

Nice one, I will get to work with cleaning it then! I am looking forward to playing some Sonic later.0
-
It was playing sonic on my mate's gamegear that made me really want a megadrive, hehe!0
-
I tried to remove the back to aid cleaning, but after removing all the screws (which where exactly the same size as the screw driver on my multi tool) the back didn't seem to want to budge, and I didn't want to force it because it probably would have broke. Next stop, vinegar, kitchen towel and a nail file :twisted:0

Pro-Tip...
You should only really need to clean the bits that actually make contact. The springy contact though can be a bugger.0 -
RESULT! After a small bit of a sandpaper it is now working! The springy thing was what worries me most, but after a quick blow a dab of the cloth with vinegar on it seemed to work! Only thing is there is no sound, which is a bit odd, I was looking forward to some nice Sonic music0

have you tried sticking some headphones in? Maybe the speaker coil or diaphragm is knackered with damp or something.0

Stupid question time...
Have you got the volume turned up?0 -

I wondered how long it would be before someone asked :P Volume is turned up full, headphones are working properly. None of the games have sound, so it must just be buggered.0 -
ah, bugger.
Just checked, and yes, my Sonic, on the Xbox has sound and everything!0 -
Think I've got a Megadrive rotting away in folks loft- I should bang it on ebay really..0

I still have a fully functioning Commodore C64. Somewhere. The old original bulbous ones, like what they used to run Red Dwarf with!

Shame it cant sync up with my gamegear I could just play it over and over again on loop and hope that sometimes it will be in time0 -
Tell you what, PM me your phone number, and I'll play Sonic on my xbox, and leave the phone next to the speaker so you can hear it0

Yeah I can tell you exactly what I'm doing and you can do it on your Sonic so that it syncs up perfectly! What a genius plan0 -
Nah, I was just going to let you listen to me playing it.0
-
Well I will laugh at you for playing it on a silly xbox while I sit there with my Gamegear having lots of fun singing the songs in my head!0

I don't even know who wins anymore!0
