Cannondale fork conversion

I've got a 2000 Cannondale F4000 SL that I'd like to convert to take a rigid fork or some normal sus forks at a later date.
I've measured the axel to bottom of the headtube - 465mm. Have i measured the right distance? Was a bit unsure due to the headshok forks not being like your normal ones.
I'm unsure which length rigid forks to go for, 26in seem to come in 2 different sizes 425mm or 445mm (or there abouts) and I can get some 29er rigid forks which are 465mm. Would I be able to use the 29er's or would this mess up the geometry too much?
Also to fit the forks I'll need some converter or reducer headset, can anyone recommend something?
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

If it is C'dale headtube compatible.
the Dale headtube spec is not the same as 1.5 standard. But it is close."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
