I've been riding this badboy for a week, this is my first carbon frame and I've noticed a lightening in places on the leading edge of the front fork, is this a normal process or should I get it checked out?

if it is de-lamination i would get it looked at.

funny you mention this. was in halfords today and noticed the boardman team carbon had odd looking finish on forks. i know there undirectional carbon but it looked like it was seperating under surface. not good for showroom bike

Lacquer sometimes goes 'milky' if it is applied too thickly - I wouldn't worry unless there are actual cracks in the lacquer that is leading to delamination / exposure of the carbon fibres underneath. The lacquer is purely cosmetic - it doesn't add to the structural integrity of the fork.
