Possibly a stupid question - wireless router

Our internet connection is constantly going off, and up til recently we thought it was a problem with the virgin modem that we'd had previously, but after a new modem this isn't the case obviously.

Basically we lose internet connections completely until the belkin wireless router is reset and then it comes back on, so obviously something is wrong with the router but is there any what to test it to see if it's definitely is the router and give more information about what's happening and why it goes off?

Or is it just time for a new router?

Sounds like it's overheating, which is par for the course with Belkin.

See if you can do a factory reset on it, and see if you can upgrade the firmware.

But surely not because when it's reset it's only switch on and off quickly, hardly enough for it to cool down and work again, and it's on all the time generally so it would do it a lot more?

Its not a sure bet that the router is the problem. Its just obtaining a new connection when resetting it. Sounds like the actual connection is dropping.

Any chance of telling me how to upgrade? Will there be software on the website and can I do it from my computer or would I have to directly connect it to the router?

Are these all ready stupid questions? lol

I had this problem thought it was the router, tried many different ones but it turned out to be the crap HP laptop that I had that would overheat and drop connections.

I've downloaded what I think is the right firmware but have now been told off the bf to leave it and he's gonna fix it, normally I'd attempted to do it myself but as he sorta does it for a living I'll just leave it too him I think. Don't want to be the one blamed for breaking it.

    I'm such a girl :)
  • MTFU! ;)

If you manage to solve the problem though, think of all the p*ss taking you can do, how his job is 'so easy, even a girl can do it' ;)

And if he get's ar$ey about it, tell him to MTFU!
