Campag Expert please??
I have Campag 10 speed centaur block on a ribble sportive racing bike.
Cassette 13-26 ratio. The 2nd biggest cassette sprocket , 23, has never worked smooth(on the little ring especially). rattles , jumps, noisy.
I removed block to look for problems to find a 1.6mm spacer in that 23-26 position with 2.4mm in every other space. Cant be right i thought ....maybe Ribbles have made a mistake building it.
But no, looking at the Campag spec thats correct ...all spacers in the right places. Yet if you 'look down it' from behind you would never think there was enough space for the chain between 23-26.
Whats goin on? Why isnt it a standard spacing? Why this non standard size and why doesnt it work smooth? Is it because of the chain angle across the block? Who can answer this one?

Are your 23 and 26 tooth sprockets not riveted together on a carrier?

Edit: It seems that Centaur are now like Veloce with individual sprockets.
The spacer between the 18 and 19t is also different - 2.55 mm.
Is this consistent with your cassette?0 -
Funny that, I replaced a Campag 10 speed with a Miche last year. Unlike the Campag the Miche has equal spacing between the sprockets and the shifting is not as good as it was on Campag, plus it does not run cleanly on the third largest.
I'm back to Campag next time.0 -
The big sprocket is 'dished' - see diagram - hence the slimmer spacer. I took a cassette off and didn't put a cable tie around it and it got shuffled with another - spend a good half hour with a micrometer measuring all the spacers to get it back together. I've got 3 or 4 Miche cassettes which I use in winter - I can live with the clunky shift at £16 each!Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

So it would appear (it's apparently to allow all the sprockets to fit on the same size freehub as a 9 speed). It does not explain the thicker spacer in the 6th/7th position though.
From another forum:Campagnolo 10 speed has three (3) different thickness of spacers. On
a Veloce 10 speed cassette which has 8 loose spacers, the first 4
spacers are 2.4mm thick. Going from the smallest cog to the biggest.
Then one 2.55mm thick spacer. Then two more 2.4mm thick spacers.
Then one 1.6mm thick spacer. The 2.55mm thick spacer is a yellow
color while the other spacers are a red/amber color. The last two
2.4mm thick spacers have the wings on them while the first four 2.4mm
thick spacers are just round.

So - I've revived an old thread here! I've got a 13-29 Campag Veloce cassette just like the one in the diagram above.
When fitted to my new wheels, there was / is very little 'bite' for the smallest sprocket when you just lay it on, prior to tightening the lockring. Is this normal? The damn thing came loose during a ride yesterday which was far from funny.
It doesn't 'fit' the whole of the sprocket teeth on the freehub when I lay it on the rest of the cassette, just sort of half on half off - assume that tightening everything up nails it in place???
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

I use miche cassettes and they fit just as you have described. I have not had a problem. I suggest you make sure that you have tightened the lockring to the correct torque.0 -
Personally, I don't think the recommended torques are necessary. I have done my own mechanics for years, without a torque wrench and never has any cassettes come loose. I bought a torque wrench last year to install an ultratorque BB86 system and couldn't believe what the lockring was supposed to be tightened to!0

Phew - in which case, it was actually my error, and I've incorrectly fired off a snotty e-mail to Rose
Am getting LBS to check it out and in meantime will start baking humble pie to send to Germany...

Just wanted to say this thread is still relevant, found it on Google and it really helped when I made the mistake of taking apart my Veloce cassette to clean it.
If any of the OPs see this, thanks folks.0
