Have you considered one of those contraptions that you fit under the back of your saddle, some of which can hold two bottles on their own? Or you could spend £Arm+Leg for one of those fancy saddles that have the integrated 'aero' bottle holder built in.0

When I was a kid my Peugeot has it's cage mounted using two metal bands that went around the downtube and bolted together. I think you can still get something similar, heard another poster talking about it last month. Hopefully the current version is a bit kinder to the paintwork.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

In fact, you could even use jubilee clips with something underneath to save the paint.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

One of these, you can carry a 1.5l bottle in it.
