Carsington Water Bike Ride - Saturday 16 October 2010
Registration is now open for debut Carsington Water Bike Ride and Parkinson’s UK is inviting everyone to take part. The ride is sponsored and has two circular routes of 8 or 32 miles starting at Carsington Water, Derbyshire, on Saturday 16 October.
The ride starts at 9.00am from Carsington Water, an award winning site located on the edge of the Peak District National Park. The 8 mile family route takes in a lap of the reservoir whilst the 32 more challenging route also takes riders along the High Peak and Tissington Trails experiencing breathtaking views of the Peak District.
Parkinson’s UK – the support and research charity - is passionate about finding a cure and improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.
Parkinson’s is a degenerative neurological condition and there is currently no cure. For some people having Parkinson’s can be a frustrating and isolating experience.
Jessica Storer, Regional Fundraiser in the East Midlands for Parkinson’s UK, said: “There are around 8,700 people living with Parkinson’s in the East Midlands. Our work is totally dependent on donations; sponsorship raised from the Carsington Water Bike Ride will go to fund our vital work here. We bring people together via our network of local groups, our website and our free confidential helpline. Specialist nurses, our supporters and staff provide information and training on every aspect of Parkinson’s.
As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. We also campaign to change attitudes and to demand better services. Help us to find a cure and improve the life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.”
Entry fees are £12 per adult and £6 per child under 16, all entrants will receive a T-shirt and a finisher’s medal on the day of the event. If you would like to take part, please contact Jessica on 0844 225 9832, email jstorer@parkinsons.org.uk or download an entry form from www.parkinsons.org.uk/eastmidlands to register and receive your sponsorship form.
