'Bicycle computers, however, are typically expensive components that would not be purchased by casual or semi-serious bicyclists'
Clearly confused research from them as that would classify you lot as 'Serious'0 -
It'll probably only be compatible with an Apple Bike, and you'll only be able to buy GPS routes from the iStore.0

For some applications maybe. Every serious computer user (ie software engineer, computer scientists) I know all use Linux or Windows, except for the ones actually programming software for Macs. You may be some sort of Graphic Designer and then a Mac may be ideal.
Macs are definitely style over function for the most part. They seem to cost around twice as much for a Mac than a similar spec Windows system.
And Apple don't make the "best computers in the world". I can make a far better spec PC, for less money than apple will sell a prebuilt computer to me. I think you mean apple make the "best looking computers in the world".0 -

This is also not true.0 -

What's "best looking" is subjective, and is therefore opinion based, and anyone who thinks Apple makes the best looking system is allowed to think that.0 -
Back to the point surely this is simply going to be an extension of the ipod/touch/phone, similar to that tie up they do with Nike for the running shoe ipod thing. Also haven't Adidas done something similar with a phone company (Nokia?).
I guess an iphone with ANT+ protocol capability should be able to do what they describe without much difficulty.Apple make the best computers in the world
I think you mean the likes Intel, Nvida, Seagate, Sony etc. make the best computer parts and they flog them to Apple, Dell, Acer etc. Apple have used the same parts as generic PCs for ages now.0 -

I agree, Apple have always made a better computer/OS package. I worked for a company that used both Macs and Windows PCs, and the IT department never had an issue with the Macs. It's not that the quality of components are any better in a Mac to a comparable Windows PC, it's the fact that Windows itself is crap, it's always been processor hungry and full of bugs compared to the dedicated computer/OS offering from Apple. Tech types don't like Macs because you can't pull them apart or build one from scratch. Businesses are put off by the initial cost (even thought they work out cheaper in the long run). But most people who get to use a Mac for a period of time refuse to give them up. I myself would never go back to using a Windows PC, but I don't mind what anybody else uses.

How is Windows crap? I fail to see any benefit of using Mac OSX over Windows 7.0 -

In my case, I use a Mac at home and a PC at work.
The Mac has never had a problem. The PC is always hanging, freezing or simply crashing.
Simply put, my experience has been enough to convince me that the extra cash up front is worth it for the lack of hassle alone.None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.0 -

daviesee, that is as red said, user error, properly installed and maintained windows system that is not full of crap is rock solid.
I have being running this particular installation of Windows 7 since November, it has not had slow downs, and out of ALL the blue screens and crashes I have had, this is due to over clocking instability that I resolve.0 -
It's interesting that Windoze is forever trying to rip off and copy the latest version of OSX.
Most people are going to like what they are used to and feel comfortable with it. But the only reason that PCs sell more units than Macs these days is price.
So - the benefit of using OSX over Windows is ease of use, superb graphics and the chance to work on the 'original' instead of the 'copy'.
To me, Macs are worth the extra cost any day of the week. But I'm not a programmer or poor student.0 -
i think its funny that people try and pretend OSX isnt just a version of linux that you have to pay fori ride a hardtail0

LOL!
Ease of use? Superb graphics?
How is this any better than windows? Windows has both of those.
Also, no one cares about "original" and "copy". Unless it's illegal. Will Snow wrote:i think its funny that people try and pretend OSX isnt just a version of linux that you have to pay for
It's not, Linux and OSX is based on UNIX, but Linux operating systems are better than OSX.
OSX mostly appeals to people into digital media and graphics editing.0 -

Too true, and that your choice of 3rd party progs is severely limited. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -

Oh no, I thought this being a bike forum I'd be free from Apple Vs Windows threads.
Apple Vs Windows threads should be filed in the 'Topics never to debate on the internet' along side Hardtail Vs Full Suspension, SPDs or Flats and Nikon Vs Cannon. (Nikon make far better cameras BTW).0 -
Will - the only reason Windoze is 'easy' to use is because they ripped off all the features of OSX.
But Macs STILL do it better. Macs don't crash. Macs don't get viruses. Macs don't even need anti-virus software. Macs don't slow down. Macs don't need 'maintenance' to keep them running properly.
Macs appeal to the graphics industry because the software has been developed for this platform FIRST and then ported to PCs - instead of the other way round - as is the case for most other software.
Hell - you can even run your crappy Windoze software on a Mac if you're that pathetic.0 -
I keep trying to post about how much I prefer Windows over Mac OS but Internet Explorer keeps crashing0
