The world she inhabits doesn't really care about ethics or morals. Much like the music biz. if it sells that's what counts and anything on the periphery is a distraction. So a vile, drug-taking horrific band (and there are lots) can prob.fill stadia much easier than others who are less so. Someone once said of NC that she has ridden in limos since she was 15 and that's prob indicative of her lifestyle which revolves around fashion/money/rich people and all the good/bad therein. She prob.isn't concerned about the poor/racism/minimum wage/oil prices because none of those things will ever interrupt her life unless she chooses to make a photo-op of any or all of them.

I was watching the 'Young, Dumb and Living off Mum' and felt somewhat sick that there are people that shallow out there. They seemed to have no clue and one said 'I don't understand why anyone would want to work'. Dump the lot in mincer and be done with them.

I don't think any of us want to work but unfortunately no-one is backing us up with an open wallet. As a quick add to NC, she works in area where the (s)exploitation of young women via drugs/false promises of fame + fortune is notorious. The people who employ her care more that the models employed are size zero by whatever means possible and if the Vuitton bags advertised in those mags are assembled by child workers in a sweatshop as long as it doesn't affect ad revenue it doesn't really matter.

Ugly face of capitalism, not that there's an alternative face of capitalism.

I always think of politics being rather like a clock face. extreme left or extreme right you end up in the same place 6 o'clock. Which for the ordinary bloke is crap. The end result is the same, opression, just different people doing the opressing.

That will be the same "13 years ago" on which NC based her recollection then.

Naomi Campbell is a supermodel. Her job description does not require her to be either intelligent or pleasant. She is only required to be extremely beautiful, those on here who contend that she is not do realise that they are in the minority, personal taste, fair enough.

That said, I feel that Miss C is getting a slightly unfair kicking here. It is not her who is on trial for war crimes. It is entirely plausible that she didn't know much about this Taylor chap or what the significance of a 'blood diamond' was. Who did, fourteen years ago?

After all she did immediately hand over the stones to someone in Mandela's charity, which is more than can be said for the guy who recieved them to 'look after'.

And what of Mandela himself? And the other guests at this gig. I'm sure they would have a pouch of diamonds too had they been sexy enough. They were all there though, pressing the flesh with this multiple murderer. Shame on them too.

It's time we left the hapless Miss C alone.

If you're reading this Naomi, sign in and pm me. I'm planning a dinner party.

She passed up an opportunity to help imprison a guy responsible for hundreds of thousands of death and injured.

She even said it was inconvenient.

That's why she is getting a hard time.

Even worse if she lied about her evidence - why on earth would she do that?

She said that she didn't want to appear at the trial because it was an inconvenience to her.
Anyone that unwilling to aid a court in proving the guilt or innocence of someone on genocide charges deserves all the kicking they get.

    This.

Jim, I think you're letting the fact you want to bone her (can't see the attraction personally) cloud your judgment.

    Perhaps you're right.

Nothing like the introduction of a supermodel to galvanize public opinion.

Having said that, I'm sure all those on here who are rightly up in arms about the terrible crimes perpetrated by Taylor have been closely monitoring the case for the three years it has been running. I'm certain none of the rightous were only made aware of any of these goings on by the entry of Miss Campbell stage right clutching her bag of dirty stones.

I really must try be more aware of current global affairs.

    You're quite right.

I remember trying to arrange a seminar with someone who was doing research into the Liberian experience a couple years ago.

    Didn't work out....

Interesting that Mia Farrow and Carole White have both testified in contradiction to Campbells testimony. ie they have stated that Campbell had been "mildly flirting" with Taylor, that she knew tha the Diamonds were on the way and that she recieved a "massive diamond".

Whether Campbell knew of Taylor and his history, or even about blood diamonds, it would appear that she's not been entirely honest in her testimony. In itself, this is odd in that she is not the one on trial and it is confirmed that she gave the diamonds away.

That said, Campbell appears to be a wholly unlikeable individual, with a history of being 'creative' with the truth, I know who I'd believe !!!

On Radio Five this evening they intimated she may get asked back for her own trail. Not saying she should do some bird but I'd like to see her back in court admitting she'd told a few porkies and literally point a finger at Mr C Taylor.

That's what they said, she may end in The Hague herself on a purjory charge.

Personally I'd like to see her back to correct her original statement. Don't think being a stupid, selfish cow warrants getting locked up. I would suspect she's had some pretty dodgy advice from her counsel too.
