Out of shape thomson seatpiller

Help recently broke my beloved pace rc305, in returning for replacement pace noticed the seat post was of irregular diameter.Top and bottom round ,where clamped oval ,can this happen due to overtightning, if the post doesnt engage in the tube correctly can this cause the frame to break.Im no bike engineer just need a bit of guidance , the post , the frame whats to blame whos liable thomson , pace or my misfotune.Thanks for reading has you can gather just want a fair outcome.

    sounds like you over tightened something.

    Standard thomson layback.Wound the seatclamp not break before deforming the post?

    Thompson posts are internally ovalised to reinforce the fore & aft axis for min weight gain. I guess this does leave them open to issues when over tightening as the cylinder is not cylindrical inside, so any pressure wont be evenly distributed. However, its fair to say that Thompson is normally bullet proof in terms of quality, so I am afraid any issues are probably caused by overtightening ..... sorry.

    PS - I would still write to Thompson anyhow - good companies like them wont probably mind shouting you a new post even if its your fault.

    Got the post changed customer good will these are the sort of companys that deserve our custom,buy with absolute confidence.Big thanks to jim walkers uk distributer for the foc replacement.
