What parts to buy to replace stolen parts of my bike?

Hello,
Someone stole my rear wheel, 8 speed cassette and the rear gear mechanism from my bike.
Carrera Vulcan V Spec Mountain Bike 09 20"
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165499
I now need to go and replace these parts. I phone Halfords and they said "we don't have those parts in stock". I said "Well, can you order them in for me please?". They said "try online".
I have only just got into cycling so I am not sure what I need. Please can you help me to know what new parts I should buy. I will also be adding a new chunky lock to my to-buy-list.
Thank you ever so much.

not stolen your shifter? if not just buy what you had before for gearing, wont have any problems and you can get a fairly cheap rear wheel on ebay0
-
Hello,
Yes they took the shifter too
I have no idea of what spec of shifter, cassette, or wheel I should buy though
Please help!0 -
Best bet would be to go to a good reliable local bike shop who will supply the parts and if you're buying something that isn't the cheapest cheapest bits will probably fit them for free.
You'll end up paying a bit more, but if you ask nicely they might show you how to do it all so you know in order to start your own maintenance.0 -
i meant your handlebar shifter btw :oops:0
-
Thanks. They didn't take the shifter luckily.
What's weird is that they even fitted their old wheel on my bike for me lol!
Any idea how much this will set me back?0 -
depends, a decent 8 speed derailler could be around £30, cassette £12, wheel depends on what you want0
-
depends on the quality of the parts...
rear wheel ~ £45-50
cassette ~ £25
rear mech ~£40
you might need a new tyre/tube as well, also possibly new chain and chainrings depending on the current wear.0 -
Thanks to both of you.
I will also need a rear tube/tyre too, I'm not sure if they replaced my chain for theirs too so I will check it out!
Thank you0 -
no probs0

Hi again,
On closer inspection, I am fortunate to have been left with the rear gear mechanism (SRAM X 4). Therefore, I only need:
Rear wheel
Rear 8-Speed Cassette
Tyre and Inner Tube
[BIG LOCK]
I went in to two bike stores just now.
Raleigh said that this will cost about £150.
Halfords said it would cost about £65.
Quite contradictory!
Halfords said that they don't have any spare parts in stock, which sucks, and Raleigh seemed quite expensive, which sucks!
Please can you help me source the rear wheel?
From my understanding, I am looking for:
DBM1 26" Rims: Double Wall Alloy Rims
Sealed cartridge bottom bracket DBM-1 double wall aluminium rims on Formula QR hubs
(I got this information from http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165499 and Google)
Does this sound right? Are hubs and wheels different parts?0 -
a hub is a part of the wheel. the bit in the center. you have a hub, spokes, and a rim (the outside bit)
if halfords are going to replace the parts with what was on there originally, then i'd say go for that. it seems to be the easiest option0 -
Thanks,
Unfortunately, Halfords said that they don't stock the parts! I might ring Head Office and try though as that is rubbish!0 -
if halfords supplied the bike, i'd have thought they'd be able to sort you out with spares...?
did you ask if they could order them in for you?0 -
Hi,
Yes I thought that they would be able to.
I just phoned their Customer Services and it seemed possible. They asked me about the bike, put me on hold, and then hung up on me five mins later though.0 -

Keep persevering with Halfords, as they should be able to source everything you need.I like white bikes0 -
Thanks, Will do. In a phone queue right now as I type. Second time lucky I hope...!0
