Prescription sports glasses

Does anybody have any experience with Prescription inserts for sports glasses. There seems to be many available on the market ranging from about £30 - £200 excl the prescription inserts. I'm guessing its called a 'Rx' insert which clips on the inside of the sports specs.
I've stopped wearing contact lenses due to eye problems and now need wear spectacles all the time. For cycling they are not ideal. Slip down slightly when sweaty. Riding position is quite a flat back using drop bars, this means you end up looking over the top of the spectacles. Normal specs don't wrap round very well.
Some links below I've already been reading about.
I am very short sighted (-7 Cyl) which means the prescription lenses end up being very thick. Although I can buy thinner lenses which costs an additional £50 on top of standard priced prescription lenses (standard lenses £40).
My questions are:
1. Can anyone recommend a pair or their personal experiences?
2. Could my prescription lenses end up being too thick so there's not enough space between the eye and lense, or even the prescription insert and outer lense?
3. I like the idea of photo-chromic so you don't have to keep changing the lenses from clear to brown. I cycle all year round inc commuting.
Andy advice would really be appreciated as I've been stuck on this subject for ages.

Then maybe another £20 - £30 to have the insert glazed at specsavers or wherevertwitter @fat_cyclist0 -
Hi there. Welcome to the Forum. This site could well be worth checking out :-

They specialise in Oakleys, which might fit the bill. Not the cheapest but I have a pair of prescription photochromic radars, which I'm v.happy with. You can send them your prescription and they can advise as to your options. Very good service, but don't just take my word for it check out some of their testimonials. Good luck.0 -
+1 for Kontrol Sports. I've been wearing Gelshocks for years. I think I only paid about £12 to get the insert glazed from some website.0

For just over 200 I had Oakley Radars from these people..... had to wait a while as Oakleys are made in USA and shipped over here... but happy enough with them.... I use them daily.

However you may struggle with your prescription but have a delve and see if any model is available to fit up.
My sphere is -5 and that is on the limit for the glasses but the site tells you if it is possible or not when you enter in your prescription.0 -
I have a pair of Oakley half jacket XLJs. I went to my local optician and got some prescription lenses ordered. They are excellent. Expensive though and I will probably also need a clear set for the winter. In my case it took 3 weeks, but the glasses were lost by Oakley (or in the post - depending on who tells me the story), which delayed things slightly. I was tempted to go with the transitions lenses option, but didn't.
The great thing with this option is that I've been wearing these Oakleys for a few years, so now nothing is different - I can just see clearly again without contacts!0 -
I've seen www.optilabs.com/ recommended before.
They appear to have moved their photochromics over from transitions to Drivewear recently (it doesn't actually say that, but nothing seems to be available in transitions anymore as you browse the site).0 -
I have a pair of Adidas Evil Eye Glasses with inserts. They are great! No problems with them at all, nice and sturdy...0

Adidas Evil Eye Pro from GoSportsSpex
They cost less from there, with a further lens colour and with prescription glazed insert, than the frames alone would have from my high-street optician, and arrived within a week/10 days of ordering off their website.0 -
I have had OptiLabs lenses fitted to my own frames in the past which were OK but now I have some Oakley Custom Jawbones with prescription Transition lenses and a set of prescription VR28 black iridium polarised lenses , as in most things in life you get what you pay for0

I keep recommending them, because for the price, you really can't go wrong:
Go here and order some Kontrol sports:
http://www.kontrolsports.co.uk/product_ ... 0Grey%20Rx
£24.99
Then once you get them, send the prescription insert here:
http://www.specsdirectuk.com/product.asp
£14.95
Job done
and they look like this on your noggin:
Oh, and at that price, you can afford to buy a set of clear lensed moondogs, and just swap the prescription insert over when you need to.live long, eat biscuit0 -
I was quoted 80 quid for prescription lenses in the glasses I have, still haven't paid up.http://www.youtube.com/user/Eurobunneh - My Youtube channel.0
