How does anyone weigh either their whole bike or individual parts. Surely they are too cumbersome for normal household scales?

Cheers :)

Rough way to do whole bike - Weigh yourself on scales without bike, then with bike and deduct difference.

And for individual items I use kitchen scales as i'm not too bothered about accuracy :P
  • Luggage scales - £5 from WHSmith's.

Although I'd advise not to weigh it - as it's always heavier than you think

I got some fishing / luggage scales from Dealextreme for about a fiver. Despite their dodgy baby blue plastic they are actually pretty accurate.

31lbs for my Meta, which was pretty depressing really.

    it is always depressing.

the carbon 456 is 25lbs, the white inbred is 24lbs

i'm convinced the scales lie to you...

Never weighed any of mine, but fishing scales would be the easiest I think (nice big hook to hang from).

Yep, bikes do always come out heavier than you think, and much heavier than 'spreadsheet weights' based on the sum of the parts, for some reason, compound error or missed components or sommat!

Got the Fuel at 21lbs dead currently though with vaguely sensible tyres, which isn't bad!

Park scales seem 'optimistic', may be less depressing if you don't mind spending a bit more!
  • Some Esso petrol stations are doing luggage scales for £2.99 with any purchase.

They're cheap and nasty, but they'll take up to 75lbs, so you can just fit your Giant Glory onto them without breaking them.

They're pretty accurate too. They matched the postal scales at my work when I weighed my bike on them.

...and while we're at it, you can all think yourselves lucky! My Devinci in the pic sneaks in just under the 42lb mark!
