Picking up a Velocity tomorrow as a second bike to my roadbike. Using it whilst riding with the wife on the more sedate less racy routes. Feedback from various sites seems good, but just wondered if any of you guys own one and what your thoughts are on the bike. :)

Hate this bike. One of my two cycling mates bought the Ridgeback Velocity - and now he flies past me on the hills, up the way and down. It was his first real bike purchase. He's lost two stones and got fit because of it.

I've ridden one for three years and am very pleased with it. Lightish and quite nippy.

I replaced the wheels as the spokes in the back wheel kept breaking.Apart from that I've had no trouble with it. I've recently got a road bike which I use now.

Did sell the Velocity to some dipstick on Ebay and despaite many agreements to collect the bike he never showed up, so I'll probably keep it and use her as a winter bike.

And to think last winter I wouldn't ride it in bad weather, how quickly they fall from grace.

Don't sell it Zanelad, you will regret not having the option.
I am in the same boat, roadbike is a fast lady.
But the hybrid (Velocity) is a nice comfy ride when you fancy a bit of rough.
  • I really like the Velocity which I tried at my LBC. I know it is a hybrid, but for users out their, will it survive tracks and terrain that is a bit rougher than a road?

  • I got a ridgeback velocity, there an awesome bike I literally fly past everything on the road, really like the shimano gears too, the tyres are the perfect balance between race and road bike, defo good purchase!

  • I have a 2002/03 model (from new) and it has been a faithful and reliable workhorse. It is reasonably light and nippy and very comfortable. it has handled tow paths and slightly rougher tracks very well.

I did have to replace the back wheel after a few years but I'm not exactly light and I do tend to overload the panniers when I take it shopping. The backwheel is slightly out of true again but given the abuse it gets I'm sure this is typical for many bikes.

I took it back to its original shop last year for a full service. The guy behind the counter described it as the Ford Focus of bikes - not the best looking, not the fastest or strongest but as an all rounder totally dependable. All the Ridgeback dealers tell Ridgeback every year not to touch the basics on the Velocity as it is fine as it is.

If you enjoy it half as much as I have enjoyed mine over the years then you are in for a great time. Best wishes.

  • I've just posted elsewhere on this forum asking if anyone has an opinion on Velocity versus Element.... ?

Had a Velocity before, thought it was brilliant.
