Hi, This is my first post and I'm after some advice.
I'm going to be getting a new bike soon and I have three in mind
1) On one scandal
2) Kona Big Kahuna
3) Something by Gary Fisher
I'm about 6'6" tall and will not be doing any heavy duty down hill. Mainly singletrack/fireroads. The bike will also be used for commuting and pootling with wife and kids.
Any advice or other bike recommendations greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Peter

It depends on budget, i'd recommend the inbred 29r over the scandal as the scandal is a pretty brutal bike.
The one i've got my eye on is the new scale 29r though.0 -
Thanks for the quick response. I did consider the inbred but they have no 21" frames at the min. When you say brutal do you mean a harsh ride?
I'm only just getting back into biking and not heard of the scale. i will look into it.
Thanks for the quick response

Hi,
I am 6'7 and really like Niner bikes due to the fit.
They top out at silly prices, but the basic steel one could be what you are looking for.
if stuck on that list I would say OnOne, wait for this right size. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
thanks again for the response.
I had a look at the scott but i think that would be out of my price range. I would be prepared to pay up to £1300 which would get me a xt scandal but that would be pushing it and I would more than likely go for a cheper one and upgrdae as and when.
I may give on one a bell and see when they are due some more inbred frames.god made me fat so the short and ugly could still get laid

I would get a suspension fork on it though, but that is just me.Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
You are a bit limited with a budget of £1300 manufatures of 29ers can only use quality parts as that is all that's available. No one makes cheap 29er bits.
If you can't go any higher look at the XT built up Scandal

The niners look lovely and for me something to aim for, I just don't think the wife would undrstand.

Thanks for all the help.
Just had another thought though. I see the Trek/Gary Fisher have been promoting the new 2011 bikes that are due some time in September.
If I wait a few weeks could I not pick up a 2010 Fisher Paragon with the possibility of a few quid off? Surely got to be worth the wait?god made me fat so the short and ugly could still get laid

Possibly but you might not be able to fit one in the UK, have you looked and found one?
Also the Gary Fisher brand is going to be known at TREK (signiture Gary Fisher) next year, so make sure it's post 2011 anyway.0
