saw an article about this on Gear Patrol this morning, looks a bit crazy but the video on the front at http://www.elliptigo.com/ actually makes me want to give it a try!

What do you mean "alternative"? You can't be serious! There is NO alternative.0

Looks a bit crazy, but I want to have a go :-)
Wonder what it's like going up hill?If you see the candle as flame the meal is already cooked.0 -
Curious. I seem to remember that bicycles have to have a seat to be road-legal, something that these don't have. I wonder what class of vehicle the elliptiGO comes under.0

do you need that manic grin to ride on one of them?
Personally, Id feel like a clown using one of them in public.0 -
Oooooh these have been discussed before...
I want a go!0 -
imagine the shame of being scalped by one of these :oops:0

me too! I'm really interested to see what they're like to ride - no sign of any UK distribution at the moment though

Was mentioned in the SCR thread: http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... 1#149882210 -
Dammit, y'all are faster than me.
Yep, that's the one, and that's the previous discussion I was on about!0 -
I'm adding it to my list of things to drive/ride before I'm too old to enjoy it, along with a recumbent bike and a carbon fibre road bike

Looking at the comparison with cycling, it points out that it is heavier and less aerodynamic than a conventional bike, while under advantages, it lists "Requires less time to get a good workout" - i.e. it's heavier and less aerodynamic. The other advantages seem pretty subjective, and this: "More enjoyable workout experience because of the improved visibility and head position" seems particularly tenuous.
So in summary, it's like a bike, but harder work, because it's heavy, un-aerodynamic and you can't sit down. There must also be some serious flex in that long stem. Apart from that it's brilliant. Deeply unconvinced.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

You're absolutely right. Still want to have a go though!0 -
I don't think they're a serious alternative to a bike, but they are intriguing and I would really like to try one out, I imagine the increased fitness is not just down the low aerodynamics or increased weight - elliptical machines in gyms are a much better workout than the static bikes they sit next next to.
