the further north you are the better obviously but you've got some kick arse cloud cover over large areas atm ....still worth sticking your head outside later on on the off chance0
-
I'll be knee deep in grease in the garage, fettling is planned for this evening!Advocate of disc brakes.0

The sky is a big place where do we look? The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
the clue is in the title....You don't need eyes to see, you need vision0
-
There is less than a 5% chance of a severe storm, and about 20% chance of minor activity. But worth watching out for.0
-
it's already done one and that's what they're predicting will show tonight. can't see us getting any joy but you never know0

lets just leave it at that :P0 -
Jeez - I'm pretty far North (still 100m short of JoG) but the cloud is going to ruin the chances of seeing anything I think....ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Thing is these things are common, no idea why this one has hit the news like it has!0
-
cause it's been the sun's longest quiet period in a century. they thought it'd died.0
-
Nah, there has been at least a half dozen such events this year. Auroras have been readily visible, plus fairly frequently in north Scotland.0
-
better tell that to Dr Grant Christie, from the Stardome Observatory Astronomer in New Zealand, cause he says different0
-
They haven't been very readily visible in the Southern Hemisphere though.
There has only been 16% of the days this year without sunspots, and quite a bit of activity:
http://spaceweather.com/
and as in this, four CMES in 3 days which produced aurora:
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=44362
Full earth blown CMEs are rarer, but partial ones and solar wind streams produce a lot of aurora0 -
he's one of the international team monitoring stars and behaviour (and unseen planets bobbing about) and in particular studies ours as a whole, so what he says goes.0

I saw them in Morrayshire nearly a decade ago. Nice. Hope they are out again tonight.
Another good reason why the South sucks donkey balls!0 -
i suppose it depends on what he means by "recent" and how recently the sun has kick started. the article wasn't too precise tbh, you know how they carve things up to make sound bites0
-
theres some meteorites coming into view soon... tis a new moon too, so the sky will be very dark!0
-
Perseids I think, are usually always a good display0

cloud's slowly breaking up here. with a bit of luck by the time i go for the pee at 3 i might be able to see summat0
-
The only time I've seen them in the flesh so to speak was when I was on Dartmoor, staying in the Two Bridges youth hostel. Most unexpected to see them that far south but the clear night helped.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0
-
It's raining here, no chance of seeing the northern lights (quite apart from probably not being North enough)
Does that have anything to do with Sheep's bumcheeks?0 -
I can't see lights but I can Mrs Acroyd at number 82 getting changed into her nightie. Wish she'd hurry up, I've been up this tree for 3 hours nowThe dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns

Obviously the busty blonde exhibitionist lives in a house without a tree, like she does in BristolI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Cloudy here too, but will stay up for an hour or so.0
