the roadworks have been going on for the last 3 years!!! they're pretty much finished now but they do close the motorway between juctions 24 and 28 between 8pm and 6am on regular occasions, there are well signed detours but thy are quite a bit of a pain in the bum. as long as you go before those times the motorway is open as usual but has a 50 mph average speed limit.
hope that helps0 -
Went to Afan yesterday and got lost, my fault though was not paying attention to the diversion signs
Exit M4 at Junction 40 and follow the diversion signs these take you through Port Talbot (as the A road is closed )and onto Cwmavon keep following the signs and they will take you straight to the visitor centre. Might be worth parking at Glyncorrwg ( MTB centre a couple of miles up the road) and using thefacilities there, they have got a better cafe, showers and a bike wash. it is only a short ride back down the valley to Afan if you want to ride the Wall . If you want to ride Skyline or Whites Level they start at Glyncorrwg anyway. Make sure you chat to the staff in the bike shops as they are very helpfull.0 -

Thanks - saw this just before we left. I was aware of the interminable roadworks but it was these (new?) closures that I'd heard about causing chaos. As it happened we managed to get away early enough to clear that section before 8pm.0
