What's the big deal if you have nothing to hide?

Just stabdard practice of trying to smear anyone testifying to the grand jury. It's all going to be eye witness stuff and corroboration, there is no smoking gun, so even if innocent *coughspluttercough* he has plenty to gain by challenging the status of the testimony and trying to avoid an actual trial.

Indeed - But it's perfectly legitimate according to the WADA code.

If it's true, then the USADA are clearly going for a sporting sanction too.

Given riders are being summoned under oath to a grand jury and face prison time if they don't tell the truth, I'm not sure if a "deal" on a sporting ban is going to sway a rider. Although as Iain points out, it shows USADA is very much part of the process: this is an anti-doping matter and not just about federal funds.
