Bike for the lady!

Decided to build the missus up a better bike than her current Apollo using parts i had knocking about, and some bargains i could grab.

Found a Kona Lana'i frame on ebay for £25, was pretty tatty so decided to strip the paint and re-do it. The OH chose Ford Metallic Purple for the new colour.

During Stripping (I forgot to get a proper before picture)

Then spent the day (at work) wire wooling, priming, spraying and lacquering. Finish isn't perfect as the frame was out the back with the lacquer drying, and it started raining. Couldn't grab the frame though as i was serving!

Frame sprayed:

Will grab one in brighter light when i can be arsed.

Spec for the bike will be:

Suntour XCM forks, white
Race Face Deus bars, seatpost and 90mm stem.
WTB Dual Duty wheels
Tektro cable disc brake on the front
Avid Single digit V brake on the back
ESI grips in green
Green Clarks brake cables
DMR V12's in silver
Truvativ Firex pedal arms
E.Thirteen 32t chainring in green
Sram X5 rear mech
Sram 8 speed chain
Tyres will be a mountain king on the back and a speed king on the front.

The whole lot has cost me less that £100, should be finished by the end of this week, will update as i add more.

Was just wondering, wouldn't it be better to have more grip at the front?
Resprayed frame looks great by the way :D

    Cheers!

The MK is only a 2.0, as i had it left over from my IH marathon frame, so the speed king is a little grippier. We'll only be doing bridleways and the local reservoir so could technically get away with slicks!

    Little update today:

Crank arms and new bb fitted, didn't get the bolts to hold the arms on though, so I'm hoping the lbs will have some tomorrow. All the parts are here now apart from the forks, which will arrive at work tomorrow, so fingers crossed by the end of the day the bike will be finished.

I'll take some more piccies tomorrow too.

I've got some white kona frame decals on the way, so hopfully the frame will look a little more finished.

Bikes now finished, was a nice easy build, with no head aches. Love how easy cable brakes are to set up!

Will grab some pictures once this thunderstorm passes!

Good stuff... cable brakes? Easy? Normally yes, however I had a right balls-ache on the 'Dale last night with spring tension, pad-toe, barrel adjusters ets.... seriously took me about an hour to fine tune them......

Heh, maybe i was lucky then, i always remember struggling with V brakes when i was younger, but I'll take the fluke as a win

This is the most lightning I've seen for years, loads of strikes!

Might just get her some of the gusset green plastic pedals, then she can change what she wants.

    Not bad for £120ish.

    Not bad at all.

just one small question, shouldn't the speedkings be on the back and the MK be on the front? :?

I could change it to make everyone happy, but i don't think it'll affect how she rides it much! Maybe later if i can be bothered, just for you

    Aww thanks :D

The colour scheme is very nice BTW, is she chuffed with it?

Yeah she's made up with it! Shame it's hammering it down, or I'd be sending her up the road on it right now!

I already had the green grips and chain ring, and she decided she wanted a purple/maroon frame. Got the spray from halfords, and they literally only had blue/black/red white and that purple so bit of a touch on the outcome!

Quite suprised at how crisp the sram shifter and mech work, not bad at all for cheapies!
