Busta, see the attached route. Not done it yet, but going to in a few weeks. Probably not going to summit, but as far as is practically possible. Coupled with a few extra miles in the forest, should be a most enjoyable day out. Doing it with some folk from a local MTB MeetUp group, join in and come along if you fancy!

EDIT: Would help if I added link!

Northwind ta sorry to willy wave.. i have done all those.. besides all very good and all that... but a little lacking in the adventure stakes for your average Conquistador.

    Some ponderings.....

Checked out Ben Lawers yesterday with the little darling, fantastic potential, ruined in places by the dreaded trail builders and there love of large steps fit for the BFG, it's also in a nature reserve, not bike friendly i think- for some reason bicycles following a trail do more damage than legions of ramblers, go figure. Still think a stealth mission is in order. There is a section below lawers summit that would be a hike unless Mcgaskill skills are the order of the day, Ben glais?sp would be wild some really big rocky sections. last bit to the visitor center would be a blast with multiple drop offs.

Ben Vorlich, ( Loch Tay) must check this out, walked this many moons ago, i am sure this would provide a good ride, any one offer any experiences.

Beinn Imme, (Arrochar)have be wanting to ride this for a while, hopefully in the next few weeks, so will report back.

    OK....for conquistador adventure points......

some I have done...and would recommend....these have appeared on other threads...so i will just include the pictures again for giggles!

rode the lariag eilde from the pass of glencoe to bonawe...top 10 descents ever and the climb was 95% rideable...you could park up at pass of glencoe...ride over to bonawe, then back....we did a p2p ending up in Oban that day and got the train back to Tyndrum.....you could do a similar thing...park up at tyndrum....ride to Oban, then train back...book bike spaces if you do!

another belter was a loop starting and finishing at the bothy at loch muick (alt glas?) going over 3 munros + two munro tops...best descent that day was from the summit of Carn an t-Sagairt Mor (with the crashed canberra on top) to loch callater...again top 10 ever...

Done more southern stuff...from banks of loch lugnaig to glenfinglas rese, over the hills to Balquihidder - then to Balquihidder station, then back to the van at loch lugnaig....

Then go much further up to Torridon....

looking at the map....there are at least a few routes around the coe....as ever with these things though...it might be a hike carrying a bike...it might be singeltrack heaven....until you are almost at the end...you dont know which it will be.

    More ponderings....

Stob Ban (Mamores) i'm sure this would be a demon descent, down the stalkers path from Glen Nevis.....

......... the usual suspects then expand:-

Ben Nevis....tricksome, not ridden this. Hire a local sherpa big carry. Not easy when gravity takes over either.

Ben Lomond .....sets the bar quite high fantastic, the trail builders are our friend.

Mount Keen.......East coast dourness, you'd have had your tea then!, not ridden, supposed to be superb.

Carn Ban Mor...................One of the best singletrack descents in the country.

Mount Fuji.......hang on a minute that was some guy trying to break the speed record on
a bicycle dressed in a full skin suit!

Annat descent Torridon.....This and the steeps of coire Lair, look tantalising...maybe this summer!!??

    Stuff on Lochnager??

Ben Avon(gorms) This looks ace, from Braemar.

    please add more?
  • I did Mount Keen this weekend and can confirm that it is a great day out.

I've seen it suggested best done both clockwise and anticlockwise from Aboyne, so we decided to start at Glen Tanar and do it anticlockwise to get the big climb over first.

Think we got it right as this gives you great descents south from Mount Keen and later north from the high point on the Fungle road on good quality trails.
If your thing is cycling all the way up, I'd do it clockwise as you'll be climbing on the better surface. If you're like me and end up pushing up you might as well get the climbs done on the rubble and enjoy the blast down later.

Can also confirm that the descent to Annat at Torridon is superb.

    Go for it :D
  • Wallace, Ben Venue is a good ride, some great techy sections. That´s not the way I´ve done it in the past though, we´ve come up from the other side. There´s a fire road all the way up and it´s rideable all the way to a hunting lodge. From there you can descend all the way back down on singletrack and it´s all doable but techy. I´ve been to the summit but it was a carry up and then back down, it would probably be rideable but there were a lot of "fall and die" sections that I didn´t fancy.

    Nice pics Cee
