Hello,
Subject says it all. I'm fairly clueless on bikes, had one when I was about 12 but not ridden in about 18 odd years.
I'm riding from London to Ireland (via wales & Fishguard ferry) in a few weeks so I'm probably going to need to buy a bike. Don't fancy renting as I want to train on it too.
It's going to be hilly particually going across the brecon beacons but no plans to go off the road so a road bike sounds like what I need.
Would anyone be so kind as to offer some advice? I need advice on anything and everything so any tid-bits would be handy.
I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand hybrid bike off gumtree, £200 budget. Any tips on what to get? I'm thinking a hybrid.
Time is pretty fine to train but any training tips would be great. We're looking at 100miles a day. I'm a runner normally so fitness is o.k but no bike skills. Is exercise bike any good to train on?
& any pro tips, like I heard there's special numbing cream to avoid saddle pain!
& Thanks!

think the cream is chamois cream mate, not sure any relevant training that could be done in 3 weeks i think the best you could do is just take it out and get back used to riding.0

DONT buy a hybrid- youll be in agony after 100 miles stuck in the same position- drop bars are designed to give you varying positions on the bike which reduces fatigue.'dont forget lads, one evertonian is worth twenty kopites'0 -
Cheers guys - both tips exactly the sort of thing I was after0

Get a touring bike, maybe a used Dawes Horizon / Galaxy or something. Racing bikes have too stressful a geometry for long days in the saddle if you're not used to them.
I think you need to double your budget, even for a used one.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.
