hi guys, i've just registered on here so i thought i'd say hello. i've had mountain bikes on and off for years but only lately began to think about going offroad. my bikes have always been at the lower end of the scale and i've been reading up on upgrading components and even building a bike starting with a bare frame.
here's the bike i've been using for the last couple of years and i'm looking to find out if it's worth upgrading the components on it or sacking it and starting afresh. my main gripe about it is that it is pretty heavy and the suspension is a bit rubbish

I'd love to ride Coed y Brenin on that!
But no, if you're sane, start afresh.0 -

if your on a budget it would be possible to make it better but like these guys said worth starting from a decent baseI rode what you dug last summer0

Start afresh. Second hand if your budget is tight. Plenty of threads here on decent entry level bikes.I don't do smileys.

My missus bought one of those about 4 years ago.
Cost about 60 quid from some shopping channel on the tv.
It weighed a little more than one of these.......

Nah, big hits never had a big gun on the front, and I don't think they ever came in "sand" colour.0

Wish I'd thought of that before my mate starting ripping mine to pieces. Would have been an epic sendoff, instead of being broken into bits and chucked in a bin :P0 -
Nice one, start collecting empty Coke bottles!0

You'd be wasting money on this bike if you ask me. No components are going to improve it, and it's always going to weigh quarter of a tonne.
You'll pick up something far superior on ebay for £20 if you shop around. Especially if you're handy with the tool box.0 -

I think it has 'loosen the nuts n' bolts all the way and set a trap for a thieving chav in a town centre scenario' written all over it.

Great idea in principle, but I could easily see someone being charged with GBH or something if the chav hurts themselves :P0 -
plus, lake jumping sounds more fun.0

Would be a bit like this...

How about we combine the fun aspects of both?
Set a MASSIVE jump in a slate quarry, with a landing on some pointy razor sharp slate.
THEN, find a chav and tell him how we're all scared to do the jump on our "expensive" bike, see if it would take the bait, and demostrate it for us!0 -
