tbh - pretty much any drop-bar road bike can be raced - racing has more to do with pushing the pedals than it does about what bike you ride...0

yes...but bear in mind most 4th cat races are prone for crashes as the lack of bunch riding experiance and over exuberance..so perhaps use your current bike to start?
As a certain texan said "its not about the bike"
BTW..i raced with my old aly trek with no bother...0 -
+1 on 'use your old bike to begin with'0

Read this thread for the woes of crashing and writing off a nice bike in a cat 4 sort of level race:

Stick to your old bike, at least if you total that you'll be able to replace it, if you spend all your money on a nice shiny carbon bike and total that could you afford to replace it?
Anyway if you can do 27mph for 25miles, and you have a racing brain, you'll soon be racking up the points to get to the higher cats, and then you can buy yourself a nicer bike.0 -
I'd also have a go at a couple of sportives and observe just how many flash bikes you can beat. It really isnt about the bike.0

Use whatever bike you want, just get it insured. You can get a £1000 covered for about £10 per month which includes cover for racing.More problems but still living....0

I can't bring myself to read that sorry thread. Very sad to see the death of a CAAD90
