Good programme on 123 Bravo just now, tested "wicking" clothing in a temp controlled environment.
BASICALLY, It doesn't work, as...becauses it takes the sweat away, the body has to work harder to keep the Core Temperature down. This makes fatigue more prevelant.

So, Swiss company "X Bionic" tested their clothes, which works very differently.
The tests were on an Ultra Endurance Athlete and TV reporter.
Both had their Cores monitored and both kept a better body temps overall, and trained better.

They even tested it on a bike/turbo, with cold/wet conditions, and it seemed to work well too.

NOW, the BAD News!!! One of the Cycling jackets is around 270 Euros...

But, I've got about 7 jackets, so selling these for "The One" seems sensible to me.
Think you'll be seeing 7 jackest in my size on EBay very soon!

Hate to say it but, a company tests THEIR OWN clothes and gets good results. Somehow I knew that would happen.

No, testing was done by independent place in Swizterland.

Very impressive show, and makes you wonder about all the "TECH" stuff.

I've tried almost everything, Helly, Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Goretex...

AND... I get cold, soaking wet Every-Bloody-Time...
  • Sweat cools the body down by evaporating from the skin. Evaporation requires heat and it gets the heat from the body. If you have a wicking layer it transports the sweat away from the skin. Great for keeping you dry but suboptimal for lowering core temperature.

Sod spending 270 euros, just train topless. Works best! Might offend small children though...

Nah, sod that, just everyone. I could put up with a ton of uggos if we ocasionally had the opportunity to see a few fit birds bouncing around topless.

So, for a top, jacket, bib tights, not much change from £500 probably.

But, MANY Goretex jackets are over £300 alone.

So, if you;ve got the readies, splash-the-cash!!!
  • I'm not splashing any cash! My £40 Fox jersey and £60 RaceFace jacket will do me just fine thanks!

I got pair of heavy cotton baggies/combat shorts, were "Kids" size, M and S in Cardiff.

Think they were around 5 -10 quid, about 10 -12 yrs ago, at least.

Dyed 'em from green to blackish/green.

I love em for the summer, with a padded lining.
    My FAV summer off-road short.
