Search within a thread

It would be so much more helfpul if we could search within a thread. It's not in the slightest bit helpful to have search results show a thread and then you click through to that thread and you are faced with 50 pages and you haven't the slightest notion on which page the item you are searching is actually located. Perhaps I have missed this feature but if I haven't it really does need to be sorted.

    agreed i.e on the what have you just bought thread i want to be able to search for *Oakley Jupiter* and have the results from that thread shown, not every thread on the boards :x

    We are looking at improving the search facility on the main site so I will have the devs look into whether than can be extended to include the forum too.

    Meantime, if you install a repagination extension in firefox or Chrome, scroll to the end of the thread so the whole lot's in your browser and use 'find' that's a clunky but surprisingly effective way to search a thread.

    Thanks John I think that it would be something that would enhance things greatly. Also when we are on the subject of search it would be great if I could quotation marks "" to find exact phrases as often the search all terms simply isn't precise enough as the two words can be quite common words and therefore appear in a lot of threads independently of each other so I end up reading a whole lot of threads that have absolutely nothing to do with what I'm searching for. Using quotes round a phrase usually means that it will search that exact phrase and it would be great if that feature could also be looked at. I would put that as the biggest reason why search results are meaningless and alot of the time and why so many subjects keep coming up over and over again because when you've read threads that don't give you the info you've searched for you just give up and ask the question.

    The addon is ok but as you say rather clunky. It actually takes ages for it repaginate very long threads and I gave up as I was trying to search the just bought something thread at 200+ pages.

    It would work fine on the smaller threads so it's not all bad.
