Fitting Shimano Deore BB

I am fitting a Deore bottom bracket in my Specialized Hardrock.
I have faced the BB shell. In the shimano instructions it mentions fitting spacers between BB shell and external BB cups but I don't quite understand wether I need them or not, the instructions aren't too clear.
Do I need to fit them? My frame has a 68mm BB shell.

Yes. You need to put two spacers between the frame and the driveside cup, and one between the frame and the non-driveside cup.0

How do I make sure that the crank is tight to the bearingsTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

You use the preload tool that comes with your spanner and the preload bolt on the one crankarm.0

If its a coil fork then its properly easy and straight forward to do, just make sure u watch for the little springs and bearings that sit under preload cap. I didnt realise and went steaming in then spent 3hrs tryin to recover said bearings and springs from under the freezer  :oops:0 -
Make sure you take notice of the order in which the parts come off too, (such as seals etc.). Taking photos helps as well, in case you get stuck when it comes to reassembling them. We'll see things they'll never see...
