Why the fúck would you want to partake in an uphill road race?

    Erm, because I can...
  • Because you are restricted to riding only on a perfectly groomed tarmac surface, you can't go quickly because you can't coast downhill or shift up and even if you could go quickly, braking would be impossible because your feet would just get turned over. Road cycling takes away all of the technical skill required of mountain biking (and it fúcking well does before you start), relying purely on lung capacity, something which XC and DH require anyway! Any chump can pedal along a road, and before you start I have a road bike for commuting on to save my MTBs, I just take no joy in commuting.

    That is why not. :x

    The challenge.
  • What about the challenge of peeling your ballsack with a potato peeler. Would you do that just because you can?

Just because you can't climb hills without hurting yourself, doesn't mean others can't :P Is it that hard to grasp that some people get enjoyment from doing something challenging?
  • Why not just do something challenging AND fun?

    Like MTB.

    Bloody terrifying!

however....watch this for what a talented rider can do on a fixie

So, his skills on a fixie are NOTHING compared to what he can do on a proper bike then?

    Like MTB.

    Different strokes for different folks.
  • No shít! Clearly you enjoy doing things that I would pay to avoid!

Maybe you can use your fixie to tow me up the hill next time I'm at the DH track! :D

    Everyone's a winner!

Are you trolling? Just because you don't enjoy riding uphills doesn't mean its stupid if someone else does!

A guy at works got a road fixie- looks nice but I wouldn't like riding it I don't think.

Didn't say I owned a fixie, but I do enjoy finishing a good climb and then stopping while my mate catches up :P There's next to no good trails round south Manchester, so road riding and hill climbing are all I've got until my mate comes back off hols. Besides, it doesn't hurt to get a bit of exercise in :D

Y'see because I spent a lot of my youth riding and racing up hills on both road bikes and fixies, I can actually do this. Although, I did use a MTB (Kona Coiler), I did tow two riders, on DH bikes, in full gear up the first climb at Llandegla... :D

Ah yes, a rather perfect example of the hippies fave mode of transport.

Fixies, common among hippies and ideots, popular in big fashionable cities like London Paris and NY.

No gears, no suspension, no tyre tread, no proper brakes.

    No point.

What kind of naziesque hippy would ride one of these abominations?!

    I'm offended.
