mis-diagnosis and pointless spending

So I recently bent my mech hanger and after replacing this the shifting was all over the place no matter what I tried to do. Bought a new Deore mech from Decathlon (£24.99 bargain!) installed it and still had the same shifting issues... DOH! :x

Changed the gear cable and the outer that goes into the mech and the shifting is as sharp as a very sharp thing. Safe to say I will be changing my cables more often than every 8 months in the future

Anyone else hate spending monies on a replacement part when the issue was else where?

Nope, I don't make that kind of beginner's error. ;)

Had a similar problem. New hanger and chain.
After a good few hundred miles the gears went bonkers mad. New Cassette tried (spare unused wheel), New mech, well less than a weeks riding and new outer and inners. The only thing I paid for were the cables. Result = no better. Fixed itself on a ride recently.

I always look for the cheapest bit to replace/chase problems with 1st. Never get that tightness out of a Yorkshire lad.

Hope you swapped the parts back so you ahve good spares.

Dont you just love impulse buying. My mate went into PC world for a new £10 cordless mouse last week and came out with £700 worth of iPad

I used to have a Metro Turbo that failed 24/7. The amount of money I spent trying to 'fix' it was incredible :(
  • I did a similar thing a few years ago replacing an XT shifter like for like when it was the cable! Doh! At least I still have a good spare rear shifter!

I bought tonnes of tools to fix the rear suspension on my BSO, only to find I'd overtightened the grub screw at the top of the shock.

Ah, ipads. If it wasn't for the phenomenon of "impulse buying", they wouldn't sell any of them, I mean, has anyone who's bought one REALLY sat down and thought about buying it?
  • Why would you want a laptop that hasn't got a keyboard or mouse?

I have a MacBook and it is ace, but I'm really struggling to see the point of the iPad.

General surfing and messing around. I usually read my email, sickipedia, and half a dozen other sites on my iPhone when I can't be bothered to turn my pc on. iPad would be much nicer to use.
