Beginner / newbie time trial questions

I am a little confused about time trials, please bear with me, any help would be appreciated.
1) Do you NEED to enter / sign up in advance for a time trial?
2) Do you NEED to be a member of a cycling club to enter a time trial?
I am hankering to attempt my first time trial, there is one locally (Anglia Velo 10m TT 15/08/10) that seems to fit the bill, but have no idea how I go about entering and participating in said event.
Thanks.

If it's a club 10 (usually mid-week, evening) then turn up and have a go. Most clubs wi9ll allow you a couple of runs before insisting that you join.
If it's a "Open" event (i.e. open to all commers) then you usually need to sign up in advance and be a member of an affiliated club.0 -

Right, so what I am after is a club TT to start with then......will have to have a search.
Not easy this cycle race lark, running races are so much simpler to enter!!!0 -

It's pretty easy. Find out on the CTT website some clubs local to you http://www.rttc.org.uk/Clubs/tabid/118/Default.aspx - then phone them up and ask if they run a midweek club TT. Turn up, pay your £2 and expect some pain!
In fact the CTT site already has a list of some club events http://www.rttc.org.uk/Default.aspx?&gv ... __gvfl6=17Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

Not sure where in Norfolk you are but I've had a quick look on Norwich ABC's site and they have a few club events left this season

Most other clubs will have something similar and they usually allow non-members to race for a minimal entry fee.0 -
Thanks all, its a bit clearer now 8)
Breckland CC actually run club TT's not very far from me, so I might try them.0 -
There you go, still a few left to try including a 5 mile TT which is unusual.

Result, I've emailed them, and they allow 3 "turn up and try" club TT's, so I can get a couple in before the year is up and see how I get on with a view to taking it a bit more seriously next year.
I've actually ridden the 10mile TT course before on my own, so it will be handy in that I already know the course.
Quite looking forward to my first proper TT now 8)
Thanks guys0
