Following on from my thread "League vs Union" a while back, I wondered if anyone else had been watching and enjoying the rugbt union 7's on Friday nights (ESPN).

As my interest in football gets more and more distant I have been loving the Superleague over the summer and the Guinness (sorry Aviva) Premiership in the winters.

The 7's is a pretty new concept to me but despite fairly small crowds and most teams only having youth players and trialists on view, it has been bloody exciting to watch.

As it is a 2012 olympic sport, I am keen to see how our teams progress with a medal up for grabs.

I didn't think that Rugby 7's would be in the Olympics till 2016.

There's some tension around 7s at the mo. There's Commonwealth Games and Olympic medals up for grabs and so public funding, but the governing bodies see it as a lower level or indeed feeder system for 15s.

I think it has the chance to be the same as 20/20 cricket, and the best day out I ever had at rugby was at the Middlesex Sevens a few years back.

Correct Kevin, along with Golf if I'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately the Internation sevens series is over now but keep an eye for it starting back up again in Dubai in December finishing with the London and Edinburgh tournaments (think all day piss up parties!) at the back end of May next year.

As Jimmy said it's a very enjoyable and exciting game, you don't get the 'big names' as it's a very different style to normal rugby union though hence the youth and trialists.

It is in the Commonwealth Games though so it'll be in Delhi this year, England took a silver medal from the last games.

Definately needs to be treated as a game in it's own right with specialist players as BigG says. It's certainly got its place and I find it entertaining and attending live is a great day out but for me it will never match the full version of the game so yes, it is in many ways the equivalent of 20/20 cricket.

If you say so - I do like constructive criticism.

I was like that for years and years and years... then I realised it is in fact association football that is in fact sh1t, with its over hyped, over paid, non entertaining protagonists and I made the move.

Now I will go and see my village team but no-one higher up the pyramid of football.

I am split between league and union to be honest but thankfully the geography of where I spend my hols means Perpignan is the local town and they have USAP in the 15 a side game and Catalans Dragons in Super league.

    Both are awesome.
