Hi All
Opinions for a first roadbike please....
Specialized allez at £500 ish or Decathlon 2 at £449

Like them both but the Decathlon seems to have some better kit eg Sora for less cash. How much of the Spesh is paying for the name (which doesn't necesssarily bother me)

£500 is about the limit in case I don't like it and am a bit wary of the Ebay/2nd hand route!!!

Thanks Guys

I paid £365 for my 56cm 2009 Trek 1.2 in January, love it to bits! Don't be wary....
Cannondale Supersix 105 2013- summer bike - love it!
    Cannondale CAAD12 - racing fun!
Trek Crockett 5 - CX bike, muddy fun!
Scott Scale 940 MTB XC racer.

  • Can't comment on the Decathlon but I did buy an Allez. i had looked for something used/second hand but ran out of patience tbh.

Not been disappointed one bit with the Allez. You'll struggle to get much movement prisewise, although some accessories free (ballpark 10% of purchase price) seems acceptable.
Allez 16 - bad weather / turbo trainer
Tarmac Expert SL3 - test colours
Dogma 2 - ex Team Sky

I think this is the 1. V good value if you can stretch to £600. Much better spec than the Spesh or Decathlon... Go on. Push the boat out.

It's a no brainer. I'd take the Focus over the other two every single day of the week!

    Thanks for all the replies....
Looked at the Focus but was a bit put off because a couple of reviews said it was a touch heavy and that the wheels weren't the best. If I'm honest it just looked a bit too "bling" for my liking. Looks good for the money though but At £600 it was pushing my budget too.
Eventually ordered a Ribble 7005, with Sora g/s and upgraded the "standard" supplied wheels to Mavic Aksiums. Ribble are fairly local to me too so I could try it for size etc. I do like the understated looks too.
On that note, I fully expected to be fitted with a 54cm frame but after sitting on a 54, and a 52 found they were both way too big so tried a 50 which is perfect!! If I'd ordered the Focus I would have ended up with the hassle of returning it for a smaller frame. Just proves the often siad advice that if you're not sure, you really need to sit on the bike to judge whether it fits you.
Can't wait for my bike now.....
    Cheers again
