Hi

With the accepted rule being that when you change your cassette you change your chain at the same time. My question is, can I get away with only switching the cassette as my bike is only 4 months old with 500 miles on it?

Thanks

Providing you have looked after the chain fairly well then no problem. It is mainly new chains on old cassettes that give trouble

500 miles shouldn't have caused much wear, so probably ok

it's worth knowing how to check for chain wear/stretch, and what the effects of wear are, read here...

    Thanks Guys

Planning on changing my 12-25 to a 12-27. Just need some extra gearing for the Scottish roads
  • Eventually got the new cassette fitted, thankfully no issues with chain length. Was all set for a test ride then spotted 2 loose spokes, not confident enough yet on my wheel truing skills so need a quick trip to my LBS to get fixed.
