I've spotted the Canaan comp from Mongoose for sale at £900 which is a big discount on the 2009 model. Its got Fox front and rear shocks and 100 mm travel both ends. Any views on whether this bike is any good? Are these components rated?

I am coming back to mountain biking and will be doing mostly trail riding at the likes of Glentress.

Spec details below:

Frame: Mongoose FreeDrive with 100mm travel, 6061 PG heat treated alloy, integrated headset and replaceable hanger

Rear Shock: Fox Float RP2 , air spring, two position ProPedal, 165x38 mm with 19x8 mm hardware

Fork: Fox F32 FRL 100mm travel, rebound and lockout

Thanks for your help people!!

Very good! Heavy frames, but light kit for the money offsets this. Well reviewed XC bike.

You got a link to it?

I think you mean the Canaan Elite - Rutland have them in small, medium and large sizes on Ebay for £899.99 delivered.

I bought a Teocali Super from Rutland on Ebay. It arrived within 3 days of buying it. Very happy with the bike - amazing spec for the price.

You are right - that was the bike I meant - the elite!!! I should start again from the top....

Here is a link to the ones going on ebay. They look pretty good for the set up. Is there anything comparable in that price bracket? I saw they were out of Teocali - what made you go for that rather than the canaan? Is it too similar to your Giant?

The Cannan has just short of 4" of travel and the freedrive system works well and is almost similar to the GT I Drive, it depends on your skill set and intended use, this is more XC race rather than trail centre eater...if your an agrresive trail rider then the Teocali may be the best for you...if your not into getting to much air then this could be for you...a great buy spec wise

Well I guess I normally pick my way through trails at the moment and I haven't done any big jumping off stuff. But then that is because I have no suspension at the moment. The giant anthem seems to get a lot of fans on here with similar travel - is it not a trail centre eating bike either?

Trail centres vary so much is hard to pin a bike down that is 'trail centre' ish. It is a very good XC bike though and would be fine fora lot of trail centres.
