What is TPI?

Well, shopping for tyres again, after my ones are pretty much done now, looking at the maxxis crossmark, they look great, but there is a thing called TPI, I think it means threads per inch, not sure though, and is it better to have 60 TPI or 120 TPI? please tell me pros and cons

And why is more better? less punctures? I know for a fact its lighter, as thats what it says on the website, is the fact its lighter all thats better? does it last longer, by not wearing away as easily?

more tpi makes a stronger carcass.

Probably more supple too, last longer etc.
