Hi, I got a new specialized allez 16 last year with an 8 speed cassette and sora shifters. I want to upgrade the shifters maybe to tiagra ones but I can only find those in 9 speed. Would I be able to use those 9 speed shifters on my bike as it is or would I have to buy a 9 speed cassette? I saw some nameless ones on ebay but they would probably be useless...
thanks

As you've got Shimano kit you can pick up some very reaonably priced cassettes. Chain Reaction are selling a Tiagra cassette for less than £20 or you can get an SRAM PG950 for £25. A 9 speed chain is also pretty cheap. Look for a KMC one.

Have you thought of using campag 10 speed shifters ? they will shift your 8 speed shimano. I have been using this system for several years now without any problems. Hewett cycles use this mix on one of their tourers too with a 9 speed set up. You just hubub the cable (easier than it sounds).
