Question about my new tyres

just got some of these since I am skint and not bothered about doing more than trying to shift my Guinness belly. However after shoving them on for the first time (exploding the inner tube on the front in the process, doh!) I find that when I inflate them they seem very different to the unbranded rubber that was on their before.
The stock tyres that were on before on that seemed much flatter to the rims than these ones? Also I can't seem to inflate them to as rock solid (pressure gauge on my pump is knackered) a pressure as the stock ones- same inner tube on the back, front now sports a conti tube. Pressing straight down with my thumb feels pretty solid but squeezing in the side it feels a lot more flexible- is this normal, the sign of a slightly better tyre or have I buggered something up tremendously?
sorry for such a rambling and disjointed post, my grasp of basic conversation goes to hell at night, never mind trying to type coherently!

Could be that your pump is knackered.....
Schwalbe tyres generally have quite this sidewalls. Mine feel a tad softer at the sides than my old Conti tyres, even when pumped 15psi harder.0 -
dont say that, the Mrs is already moaning about how much new tyres, pedals shoes cost, then add in sneaky extras of some levers and a pack of inner tubes and suddenly I need to ask for a new pump too0

Likely the new tyres have more compliant sidewalls, although difficult to confirm without an accurate pressure gauge. It's also likely that you'll suffer more visits from the p* fairy due to over/under inflation.Cycling weakly0
