    True, but then petrol evaporates pretty quickly, whereas diesel stays around for much longer. I believe some of it evaporates but leaves behind a slippy residue.
    That said, I won't brim a petrol tank either so it's of no great consequence to my driving. :)

    P-Jay - I just had a quick look and it seems "sufficiently heavy rain" will wash diesel spills away, so probably nothing to worry about in your story. ;)

    there usedd to ba a bus company round here that was notorious for forgetting to put the fuel filler cap back on. The first corner on the road outside their depot was an accident blackspot, the slate wall there is still multi-coloured due to the amount of times it was rebuilt.

    Were they ever prosecuted over it?

    I have no idea, I didn't hear anything about a prosecution, but it doesn' happen anymore.
