Ok, so my boyfriends bike was stolen on Tuesday night and I've just arranged to meet the seller this afternoon.
The police are coming around to do the report at lunch time and MAY accompany me to go and 'buy' the bike back.
Anyone ever done this?

Got the bike back and the 'seller' has been arrested - Big thanks to Keighley and Louise from Walworth Police Station!
Note - Evans do not keep the bikes serial number, so anyone who has bought a bike from them, please write this number down.
Register your bike on: http://www.immobilise.com. Police will stop randoms on bikes and run the serial number. They'll know instantly if the bike is stolen.
And, thanks to Toks post on http://bikeshd.co.uk (this is how I managed to contact the 'seller' this morning).

Let's hope he gets more than community service. :?0 -
I tried this when my bike was stolen the other day.
A stock pic was used on gumtree and the location was 1/4 mile form my house.
Phoned and was immediately told that "the bike" was sold.
Next day same seller had another bike on gumtree.
Passed all this info on to the police.
Subsequently found out the same guy has sold about 10 bikes, a couple of video cameras etc on gumtree all using the same phone number, but some different names - including a girl's name when selling a girl's bike!
Although the police thanked me, I haven't heard anything back.
If this guy sells another bike though, I'll arrange to view it. With a couple of burly mates.
Glad you had a good result though.0 -
