Loading the Specialized Tricross

To the owners/fans of the Specialized Tricross in the forum, got a question: have you used front racks on the bike at all? The reason I'm asking is that last weekend, I went on a camping and cycling trip, loaded the bike with the camping gear, etc, etc (2 Ortlieb panniers, 1 tent) all on the back rack. When I set off, it felt a bit wobbly and I got worried. It got better as I pedalled along (from south west London to Paddington Station).

I know that the proper tourers are designed for heavy load, but would I be pushing it if, for my next trip, I use front racks and front panniers?
