RIBBLE EVO FRAME?

Has anyone bought one and has feedback on it? Good reviews on Bike radar.
im just looking for a light bike to throw round the crit circuit that doesnt brake the bank and im not gonna cry over if the likelyhood of someone taking me out happens.
Any reviews welcomed, or suggestions of a frame for £300-£400 that I could buy instead. Planetx is similar, but the reviews look like the evo rides better. I have A full Dura ace set up that will be thrown onto it.

ordered the frame and forks last week. will post a pic when i get it/them.0

Any ideas on the geometry - missing from their website? Top tube and head tube I'm mostly interested in.
It did get a good review - (Sturmey) can't wait to see the pics - what you going to hang on the frame?0 -
I spoke to someone at Ribble this morning. For the Medium size I was quoted:
Horizontal top tube: 547mm
Head tube: 145mm
It seems stupid cheap to me. But these measurements when put together with what you get on the Bikeradar review makes it look like a very sensible frame.
@Waynenio I'd say it would be worth a punt for what you want.
Planet X always too compact for my tastes. I once had a Kinesis RC2 and bumpy descents just weren't great.0 -
guys,
Cheers for the responses so far. I have a bit more info for you;
The ribble frames are made in the same factory as the Planet SL Pro's and are therefore of similar build quality, maybe better accordin to the like for like reviews on Bike radar.
The sizing and geomerty is almost identical to the SL PRO
http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FRP ... e#Geometry
So base your measurements on that. However, the big difference is that PX, have in my opinion and Ribbles, sized thier bikes wrong. The medium on PX is a small on Ribbles, the Large on PX is a medium on ribble.
I am 5ft 9inch and I found the Medium SL Pro way too compact for me and would buy large at PX again or Medium (57Effective top tube) on Dribble.
As mentioned already, the sizing is almost Identical and thefore the sloping top tube (which I prefer as close to horizontal as I can get) on the evo will be the same as the SL Pro's. If you dont like this, I wouldnt bother buying the EVO.
Look foreward to the pics.
If I do buy, Im finishing with a Most Dura Ace Groupset, apart form the chainset which is the new Ultegra deisgn, the Pro Vibe Track stem and Pro Vibe handlebars, seatpost and Fizik Aliante saddle and C50 Dura tubs or Mavic Ksyrium's for bad weather racing. Should look sweet, but will it ride quick for Crits????
P.S I would opt for a lighter carbon fork clear laq Fork as the matching is a tad too heavy. Thats an Individual choice though.

As far as I can work out, yes, they are pretty much identical, but the Evo must be less compact if the seat tube heights are reliable. Medium Evo is 52cm compared to the 48cm on the PX.
But, the PX geometry chart is all over the shop.
All this lack of dimensions and pictures (people love hi-res pics - yes, that's you Bikeradar as well) is a bit daft. It's basic-marketing-head-against-wall-despair, but then it's commonplace with so many cycling related websites.0 -
lol, Innit. Pics sell bikes!
The bikes are the same, there is no difference. Ribble have just sized theres differently and more accuratley. There is no difference in them apart from what they have been named as. Small 48cm (c-t) ribble is a Medium 48cm (c-t) PX.

Got e-mail back from Ribble earlier.
The pics and geometry will be going on their website in 10 days.0 -
If it comes from the same factory as the PX one....I think it comes from here

Not sure which one it is like.....0 -
Yeah I think thats the one. My mate some how managed to order the stealthy looking TT straight from factory. Its the exct same frame as ribble sells, but looks better as it doesnt have dribble splattered all over it.
Do you know if they take individual orders?
http://www.xds-carbon.com/products_view.asp?cp_id=89
This looks the the SL PRO
If we can get some pics of the real thing that someone has bought we could tell. The evo is meant to have a v.slightly bent top tube and the downtube is meant to be slightly reversed from the headtube.
I want to buy a whole heap of kit from factory, but phone number has no answer, time difference I assume.

10 day wait for photos, no geometry, yet they are in stock. Bonkers. What would Sir Alan say?
I sense that Ribble may not want to sell too many of these frames yet...0 -
Maybe they take individual orders - mind you they knock out 4000 frames a month and 30,000 forks!!!!
So probably more interested in selling more than 1 at a time
Follow the top link on the left (深圳市喜德盛自行车有限公司) - they also have a bike company.

I give you the RX800

I lad, i already had that opened on my next web tab. lol
it does look liek it could be. The RX00 has better forks that for sure than the ones on the bike radar review.
Is there anyone out there that has ordered these direct from the factory that could steer me in the right direction I wonder?

The shape of those forks on the RX800 look familiar0 -
lol, agreed. Come on sturmey, lets see what all the fuss is about.

Just checked my order status and it is still 'progressing'.
Week tomorrow since order was placed.
Maybe they're still waiting for the lacquer to dry....
Not sure I understand the following comment, by the way!?...However, the big difference is that PX, have in my opinion and Ribbles, sized thier bikes wrong. The medium on PX is a small on Ribbles, the Large on PX is a medium on ribble.
Err, 'cos the ' medium' frame geometries for the new Ribble as quoted to/by Claypole above are the same ones i was quoted - and are exactly the same headtube and toptube as the Planet x Medium!0 -
Not what I was told by Ribble. Ribble said that thier evo Medium, was a Planet x sl pro Large. simply put:-
PX Ribble
S = XS
M = S
L = M
XL = L
This is based on the sizes and geomtry. they have just named them differently.

IF, (as has been quoted independently to me and one other):
a MEDIUM PX = 547mm top tube and 145mm headtube
and
a MEDIUM Evo Pro = 547mm top tube and 145mm headtube,
then I would hazard a guess they are more or less the same size.0 -
@sturmey This is how I see it. Apart from the seat tube which seems to have an extra 4cm whacked on top (?)
I'm presuming there is still no sight of the frame today? "In Stock" doesn't really seem to mean "In stock" in Ribble land. The wooly nature of it all doesn't inspire confidence for me.
Back to frames in this price area. Cheap carbon seems to be the best option with some pretty garish and shoddy alu stuff around. And when it comes to cheap carbon, Ribble and PX are clearly the best options when they have stock...
Unless you have a slush fund to get a Focus Cayo or something and flog the bits you don't want - which would be a pain. Hmmm...0 -
haha, I think we are going round in rings here. The sales guy at Ribble I spoke to last week may have it wrong, but he said the the Medium Evo was:
Effective Top Tube Horizontal (mm) 570
Thus making that the Large in PX. Like I said, he may be wron. Its worth quadroople chacking verbally or via email before ordering so that if it turns out to be small or large when delivered you have something solid to refer to and offset any return charges you may incur.

Thanks Waynenio.That's food for thought. Let's hope the guy you spoke to got it wrong!
I've ordered mine for collect in store.
So if they've quoted me the wrong geometry I can sort it out.
I hope...0 -
Still no stock?0

heard nowt from them so cancelled order end of last week. Didn't bother asking how long the wait would be but would be surprised if they are actually in stock as they claim or would have had it by now. last frame I got from them came in 3 working days.0

There seems to be a picture (at last)!
Anybody seen one in the flesh - is it just a carbon :roll: copy of the Planet X Sl Pro?0
