New chain issues

Treated myself to a new chain yesterday (Sram 971 i think) I have fitted the chain onto the bike (measuring it against my old chain and leaving a few extra links in to compensate for the links that had been removed from my old chain)
I went out for a ride this morning and it was horrible! shifting between gears was fine but when ever i put even the slightest bit of umphh into pedalling the chain felt as if it was skipping all over the place at the back, unridable!
any thoughts what it could be? This problem has only reasied its head since i put the new chain on , is the chain still a bit too long?

What he said, concentrating on the cassette as I find that goes most. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0

Apologies for reapeting what has already been said but your old chain had stretched and has worn with the cassette and chainrings.
You need to replace the cassette. You may be able to get away with the chainrings if they're not too worn.0
